Unveiling of the restored artwork by Jean-Pierre Derrien at the airport

On Friday, February 09, the inauguration of Jean-Pierre Derrien's work, "The Dream of Icarus," took place. After six months of restoration by Eric Valet of Chevalet d’art, this monumental piece, exhibited for over 30 years in the airport terminal, has now been restored to its rightful place.

"The Dream of Icarus," a massive mural spanning 27 square meters, was removed at the end of the expansion works at Nouméa-La Tontouta Airport in 2013. As part of its commitment to showcasing local heritage, CCI-NC participated in the "The Largest Museum in France" competition organized by the Foundation for the Preservation of French Art. Last year, thanks to public votes, it won the first prize in the Pacific Overseas region, entitling it to a grant of 960,000 CFP francs from Allianz France. This sum was dedicated to the restoration and re-exhibition of this artistic heritage.

As the airport's manager, CCI-NC is proud to reintroduce this aspect of New Caledonian cultural heritage, which it endeavors to preserve and promote, as part of its commitment to an airport that reflects the richness of our territory.
